Hello, I'm Sophie
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn’t in the plans for the long term. Like many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Daily tasks seemed more tangled than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
We faced culture shock, doubt, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Prairie Ridge Lab
Most online information was either corporate-level relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on knowledge from residing in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever there is a real change
This site ISN'T:
- A tourism authority resource
- Sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Netherlands continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep documenting what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please feel free to get in touch.
Cheers,
Sophie
